Technological development has changed the face of business. With internet technologies being used daily, many people have resorted to having their businesses online. They think that all they have to do is put up their site and visitors will flock to their sites. What they don’t realize is online businesses have different set of marketing techniques.
A general misunderstanding among the online merchants is that their site has to look attractive with a wide range of products. They think that this will lull visitors to their site. Online businesses are not like our normal stores where people just walk in and buy stuff. For online business they have to be pulled to the site. Of course being the technological age many people surf the net and go through N number of websites. The probability of them surfing your site is very less.
Generating sales at your website is the number game, more the visitors more are the chances of you getting a sale. However your aim is not only increasing your site traffic but also luring the visitors into buying your products.
There are several methods by which you can make your site attractive to your visitors:
- Provide them with free information about your products, services etc. If they get what they are looking for then you have made a sale.
- Provide them with free stuff like software samples, ebooks, contests etc
- Submit your site to the first 20 search engines. Use the keywords that are most searched for.
- Include your website URL in all your correspondence i.e. mails, letters, visiting cards etc.
- Use the conventional method of advertising also like placing advertisements in the classifieds section of papers/magazines etc. Be sure to include your website URL.
- Another way of advertising will be to place your advertisements in relevant email newsletters. Through this you will be reaching the target audience.
- Make your site interactive. FAQs section, chat rooms, online forums, etc.
- Link exchange with relevant websites.
- Place your banners in high traffic websites.
- Send out publicity emails
- Post articles, blogs press release on the relevant sites giving information about your site and the services and products you specialize in. Upload this content on your site and allow free downloading making sure the copyright rules are followed.
- Provide offers and discounts on your services and products to the visitors.
- Do your research. Figure out the marketing techniques of your competitors and implement them.
- Invite for reviews on your services and products from other websites/visitors.
- Start monthly newsletters. This is the best way of getting and maintaining huge number of visitors to your site.
This is not an established list and has to be modified from time to time depending on the changes in the internet marketing scenario.
