The client, an owner of a well established human resources management and placement consulting firm in Mumbai, India was very passionate about reading and collecting books. He had an amazing collection of books in all genres such as self development, management, sales, fiction, biographies etc which he wanted to share with other book lovers across India. The client chose the internet as a medium for sharing his books and approached Pegasus InfoCorp for designing and developing an online book rental site for leasing his books.
The team at Pegasus InfoCorp started off by building the detailed software requirement specifications for the client, documenting all his ideas and plans for the online library. Post discussing and finalizing his requirements, the online library site design and development process began.
The online library software is focused mainly at corporate clients across India, for the initial phase. Once logged in to the site, the employees of the different corporates registered with the online books library are able to search for books, browse through the different categories, view book details etc. Employees also have the ability to borrow books through the site depending on the kind of membership their corporate has with the online library. The entire ‘online book rental’ process is very similar to a physical library and includes many interesting features such as book queues, book wish lists, pick up requests, order/delivery status management, recommendations, book reviews, popular books, book statistics etc.
The entire site was developed on the Microsoft ASP.NET platform with SQL server as the backend database. The team also worked on a few Flash elements to enhance the overall look and feel of the site.
